Beliefs
The Baptist Faith and Message (2000) is a fuller statement of our beliefs, and it contains biblical references that support these beliefs. The following points are intended to summarize what we believe at Immanuel.
We believe the Bible is inspired by God and inerrant in content. Additionally, we believe in the perspicuity, the authority, and the sufficiency of the Bible. (Psalm 19:7-10, 2 Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1:19-21)
We believe the one true God exists as a Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Triune God is the sovereign creator and sustainer of all that exists. (Genesis 1:1-3, John 1:1-3, Colossians 1:15-17)
We believe all people are created in God’s image, and human beings were created to know, love, trust, obey, and glorify God. (Genesis 1:26, Psalm 8:3-8, James 3:9)
We believe God created human beings male and female, and that God designed marriage to be the life-long union of one man and one woman. (Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6, Ephesians 5:22-33)
We believe all human beings are separated from God by sin. Human beings are entirely unable to solve their sin problem. (Genesis 6:5, Romans 3:23, James 2:11)
We believe Jesus Christ lived a life of perfect obedience and righteousness, he died on the cross for sinners, and three days later he rose from the dead. (Romans 5:8, 2 Corinthians 5:21, Galatians 3:13)
We believe salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus alone for those who repent of their sins and believe in Jesus. (John 14:6, Galatians 2:15-16, Ephesians 2:8-9)
We believe baptism is the immersion of a believer in water, and we believe the local church is made up of baptized believers. (Acts 2:41-47, Romans 6:1-4, Colossians 2:11-12)
We believe God calls qualified men to lead and serve the church, and the local church recognizes these men as pastors and deacons. (Acts 6:1-7, 1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-9)
We believe the ordinances are baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and we seek to obey both the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. (Matthew 26:26-29, Mark 12:29-31, Matthew 28:18-20)
We believe one day Jesus Christ will return for his church. (John 14:1-3, 1 Thessalonians 4:12-18, Revelation 21:1-4)
As a Pillar Network church, our leaders also affirm the Abstract of Principles, the Chicago Statement on inerrancy, the Danvers Statement on complementarianism, and the Nashville Statement on human sexuality.
